Watch John Ch 1: 1-5 1min video

1.  God is omnipresent  Everywhere all the time.

2.  God is omniscient  All knowing.

3.  God is love   Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

4.  God is jealous   Against anything that comes between us and Him.

5.  God is all-wise   Romans 16:27 to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ.

6.  God is trinity Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

Big Question:Have you experienced any of these attributes of God?

I Jesus is the word made flesh/ the Word is God/ Jesus is our incarnate human manifestation of God

A We get to know God by embracing the Holy Spirit and reading His Word

B So what is God actually like…..?

1  We see an example of God in human form through Jesus Christ.

2 Ask the class: What is Jesus like?

7.  What is Jesus like?  caring, healing, preaching, compassionate, better than a friend, and He pursued God through prayer.

Honestly we can know about God but that is not the same as knowing God

How can Satan know about God but not know Him?

ANSWER: Satan knows about Jesus and even knows he was raised from the dead, but Satan is not surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. In his rebellion from God, Satan has cut off himself off from fellowship with God

Therefore, he cannot worship Him in Spirit and in truth.

There are some atheist who study the Bible, but they do not know God.

A CLASS QUESTION: What is missing as they attempt to study the Bible?

ANSWER: You see you have to embrace the Holy Spirit or you have to pursue to know God.  You have to pursue His presence.

IV All through the Bible from Genesis to the book of Revelations we have examples of what it looks like, what it means, and what are the results of pursuing God.

A Take David for example…

1 David worshipped God, thought about God, and talked to God while guarding and tending to the sheep. His desire and actual pursuit to know God was so genuine that he connected with the Holy Spirit…. How else would he be so bold as to have a confidence that God would empower him to defeat Goliath??? No one else had this boldness. The Bible says you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you shall be a witness. The Bible also says that David was a man after God’s own heart. Scripture says that David noted, “My soul follows hard after thee..”  Psalms 63:8

2 We can read this example about David…... But until you begin to pursue God for yourself, reading about David pursuing God will only take you so far….

B Mind you, studying the Bible is a vital part to pursuing God, but it must be combined with a prayer and worship pursuit as well.

1 For instance, reading the Gospels gives us insight into the life of Christ, who is God in the flesh. We can start understanding God’s heart and response to living life on this earth, but again even atheist study the gospels and yet they do not know God.

2 So what is the difference……

8. How do we go from knowing about God to knowing God?

V We must go beyond reading examples of people pursuing God to actually pursuing God for ourselves.

Jesus said Father, I pray that they may be One as you and I are one… John 17:23

Watch Knowing God 5min video

A Even God in the flesh, had to get alone to pray so that He could connect with that other element of Himself which  is God the Father and God the Spirit.

B Jesus was born with the Holy Spirit inside of Him and yet he still had to pursue the Father and stir up His Spirit by getting alone with God through prayer.

C The Bible says that Jesus got alone and prayed in the wilderness

D So as Christians, we have the Spirit of God inside of us just as Christ did on this earth

However, it is vital for us to stir up the Spirit of God through prayer and worship in order to make that genuine connection with God.

9.  When will things change for me?

E Once you start pursuing God day by day in this way, things will start to change. As you read the Bible, the Holy Spirit will begin to reveal things to you in Scripture that you never realized before. You will also start to actually sense God’s presence the same way Adam did in the garden.

VI If you are thinking to yourself, well I do spend time with God and I’m still not really experiencing a genuine connection.  If this is the case, then it is time to change things up.

A Re-evaluate how you are actually pursuing God. Is your time limited to praying in the shower while you get ready?  Are you spending time with God on the run like fast food?

B It may be time to make a new commitment to a new way in which you pursue God.

C The Bible says when you seek Me, you shall find Me,

When you search for Me with all your heart….. Jeremiah 29:13

10.  What does it mean to search for God with all your heart? Do you want Him enough to do what it takes?

Only then will you comes to know What God is Actually like.

Why do we need to know about God?

1.  To let others know what is our perspective.

2.  Helps to guide others toward heaven

3.  then we begin to make the right decisions and form the appropriate responses to questions that effect everyday life. Because, in the end, the truth does set us free.  It is our decisions and actions that reveal what we really believe.

GROUP DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1 IF YOU HAVE NEVER PERSONALLY MET A HOLLYWOOD STAR AND THEN YOU HEAR GOSSIP ABOUT THEM YOU ARE PROBABLY GOING TO BE MORE EASILY INCLINED TO BELIEVE THE GOSSIP. HOWEVER, IF YOU PERSONALLY KNOW THIS CELEBRITY AND HEAR SOMEONE MAKE A STATEMENT THAT DOESN’T SOUND LIKE SOMETHING YOUR “FRIEND” WOULD DO, YOU WOULD PROBABLY BE LESS LIKELY TO BELIEVE THE GOSSIP

WITH THIS IN MIND, HOW MIGHT NOT KNOWING GOD AFFECT HOW SOMEONE LEARNS ABOUT GOD?

2 NOW CONSIDER THE REVERSE, HOW DOES KNOWING GOD MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN HOW ONE CONTINUES TO LEARN ABOUT GOD?

3 GOD IS OMNIPRESENT, THAT MEANS HE IS EVERYWHERE, ALL THE TIME. ( JEREMIAH 23:23-24 AND PSALMS 139:7-10)

HOWEVER, WE FEELS HIS PRESENCE WHEN GOD “MANIFEST OR REVEALS HIS FELT PRESENCE TO US”

HAVE ANY OF YOU EVER FELT OR SENSED GOD’S MANIFEST PRESENCE?

PLEASE SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE.

4 THE BIBLE SAYS THAT GOD IS JEALOUS FOR US. (EXODUS 20:5, EXODUS 34:14, AND DEUTERONOMY 5:9)

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? WHEN IS JEALOUSLY RIGHT? WHEN IS JEALOUSLY SIN? WHAT DOES THIS ASPECT OF GOD SAY ABOUT HIS DESIRE FOR CONNECTION WITH US?
