EPHESIANS 3:17-19  17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge that you may be filled with all the fullness of God

Later this month we will be discussing “The Origins of Death and Suffering.” In other words, in the following weeks we will talk about why bad things happen to good people or anyone……

However, I feel that before going into such a topic we must first lay a foundation of the love of God. We will begin by discussing prayers, scriptures, and emotional expressions that reveal a person experiencing the love of God or the manifest presence of God.

Later in the unit we will go deeper into other elements that make up what it means to love God.

1. What is a revelation of God's love?

First, we must pray to get a revelation of God’s love. When a person has a revelation of something, it goes beyond a head knowledge to an intimate heart knowledge. You can know about someone but then you can really know someone. Praying for revelation means praying to intimately understand an aspect of God’s Word.

 

2. What happens when revelation knowledge comes? Paul’s prayer that we would come to know the length, the depth, the height of God’s love which passes knowledge, so that we could be filled with all the fullness of God

According to this scripture we must get a revelation of God’s love in order to be filled with God’s fullness.

Ephesians 1:18 says, I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints

 

3. Is there more than just salvation? 

 You see there is a process that goes beyond the initial prayer of salvation. Christ comes to make a home in our spirits the moment we truly believe and confess Him as Lord.

However, it is through a journey of continually quality moments pursuing and resting in His presence that we come to know the revelation of the love of God and experience His manifest presence.

 

 

4.  What is the manifest presence of God? Again, the manifest presence of God, is when you can sense God in you or around you. God is omnipresent which means He is literally everywhere, but the felt, seen, sensed, or manifest presence of God is something that we come to experience as we commit to daily having quality time with God.

I cannot personally speak for Kim Walker, but I feel it safe to say that these lyrics show a revelation of God’s love…. Meaning the author and or singer of this worship song appears to have experienced the manifest presence of God and attempting to describe their understanding of the love of God.

 

5. Did David have a revelation of God's love? It reminds me of some of the psalms that King David wrote to God as he also stepped into a meaningful relationship with God. As we discussed last week, David had such a revelation of God’s love and power that Yes, he was confident and empowered by God’s presence to defeat Goliath.

A It can be hard for the world to connect with an experience they have yet to have….. If you have never experienced the presence of God and have no heart connection to what Christ has done for humanity, then it would be hard to really connect with a worship song…

It may even be mistaken for a romantic love song.

 For instance, consider Switchfoot’s song, My Only Hope…

It is a song about a person’s relationship with God… All the words are meant to be directed toward God….. And yet, Hollywood which for the most part has no revelation of God’s love, used this song in a romantic drama called A Walk to Remember as a way of showing a girl and a guy falling in love.    Listen to the lyrics….

How does this song point to a person making a meaningful connection to God?

What are some key elements the author is communicating to God?

How does this song show that this person has a level of understanding the love of God?

How might this song be confused a merely a love song between to people as opposed to God?

What does this say about the world’s ideas about God as opposed to what it’s like to actually start experiencing the love of God?

Why do we need to know about a revelation of God's love?

1.  To let others know what is our perspective.

2.  Helps to guide others toward heaven

3.  then we begin to make the right decisions and form the appropriate responses to questions that effect everyday life. Because, in the end, the truth does set us free.  It is our decisions and actions that reveal what we really believe.
