Pop culture in western civilization is driven by humanism.
9.  Can anyone explain what is humanism?
noun: humanism

    1. an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters. Humanist beliefs stress the potential value and goodness of human beings, emphasize common human needs, and seek solely rational ways of solving human problems.

Basically Humanism is a contemporary version of idolatry
Except that the idol is not an object, the idol is humanity
Humanism values human reasoning, human nature, human desire above everything
Humanism doesn’t consult God or His Word for purpose or standards of morality, it consults itself.
10.  Can anyone recall an incident in the Bible in which the concept of humanism is introduced?

Genesis 3 details the first encounters with humanism or shall we say contemporary idolatry.
Satan seduced Adam and Eve with this idea that they could be on equal terms with God
….. knowing good and evil
Humanism exemplifies this very deception
It tries to say that humanity does not need God but that humanity is sufficient in itself to decide all matters of life
Satan goes for subtle ways of deceiving people. Remember how he chose the serpent to possess in order to interact with Eve
The Bible says he chose it due to it subtleness and craftiness.
When God created Adam, he said to be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it..

Why do we need to know about culture?

1. As God’s children, one of our first callings is to set the tone of the culture! .

2.  Helps to guide others toward heaven

3.  then we begin to make the right decisions and form the appropriate responses to questions on abortion, same-sex marriage, cloning, stem-cell research and even media choices. Because, in the end, the truth does set us free.  It is our decisions and actions that reveal what we really believe.
