Roosevelt did not seek re-election in 1908. 

He supported William Howard Taft


Big Bill Taft  6' tall and weighing over 300 lbs.  He did not smoke or drink and had a reputation for honesty and integrity above reproach.

Taft continued Roosevelt's policy of " Trustbusting"

   Taft's foreign policy centered
     around "Dollar diplomacy" 

this was intended to influence foreign affairs through monetary investment rather than through the display of military might.

“Big Stick Diplomacy,”
“Dollar Diplomacy,” “Missionary Diplomacy,”

Election of 1912 Progressive Party split from the Republicans and became the Bull Moose Party with Roosevelt as their leader.

With the Republican Party split, Democratic nominee Woodrow Wilson became President



Taft retired and served as the only man in history to serve first as President and then as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
