God Awareness in our Classrooms
Dr. Dennis Demuth
Superintendent
Have there been times when you have felt close to God? Maybe it was in a church service, a prayer meeting, during praise and worship, driving down the road, walking though a forest, or flying in a plane. Most of us can recall such an experience.  The next question is, “How often do you sense His presence?”
God is Everywhere
David wrote, “If I ascend up into the heaven, thou are there. If I make my bed in hell behold thou are there.” (PS 139:8) God sent a message through Jeremiah. He said,  “Am I a God at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord.” (Jeremiah 23:23,24)
Acknowledge the Presence of God
We need to acknowledge the presence of God everywhere, not just in our Bible classes, chapels, prayer time, praise and worship, Camp Victory advances or connect groups,
When someone is sinning, God is there. If a student is doing something contrary to your classroom code of conduct or school honor code, God is there. Where can man go to hide from God?
Since God is everywhere, He is in every classroom, hallways, and every office. If God were seated in one of your student desks or your chair, would He be noticed?
Increase Your Level of Awareness
It is time to acknowledge His continual presence in every classroom, hallways and office and to train our students to do the same.

Recently, I’ve been observing my grandson’s

increasing level of spatial and temporal awareness and his every expanding field of detail. Likewise, as we mature in Christ, we should be increasing in our awareness of His presence. Each day that goes by in our classrooms, hallways, chapels, there ought to be a growing awareness of God’s presence.
Very few have experienced God or Jesus revealing Himself in physical form. It takes an act of faith to realize that a person is present when one can not see or touch that person.
Draw Closer to God
We can get our students to increase their level of awareness of God’s presence by helping them draw closer to God. James 4:8 says, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” God says to us in Isaiah 29:13, “Wherefore the Lord said, ‘Forasmuch as the people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips, do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me…”
In Hebrews 10: 22 we read, “Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.” And in 1 Chronicles 28:9 we read, ”If you seek him, he will be found by you.”
A good time to begin this process is during the prayer time at the opening and closing of each classroom period (MS and HS) and school day (ELC and ELM).
I’m asking the Holy Spirit to give each teacher creative ideas on how they might mentor their students to connect with God throughout the day and to help them gain a sense of awe for God’s presence in their classroom, their school, their world and in their life on a regular, if not daily basis.
