HS Chapel 9/9/2010
1 Theme for this year, Eph. 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before, ordained that we should walk in them.
X Question to ask is, “What are your good works this year?”

2. What is Workmanship  - Well made
Workmanship is the quality imparted into an item when it was created.
Examples of workmanship – bride hair, spiked hair, etc.

3. How do you know if something is of good quality? You check it out. Clothing - check the label, inspect it. You have the label Christian…VCS student,.athlete; this means that people are going to expect better quality because you are part of a quality program.

People are checking you out…going to Christian school, what differences can they see in you  – cussing, lying, stealing, rudiness, bullying vs manifesting Fruit of the Spirit. Good workmanship reflects quality; quality can be seen, observed, touched, felt. However,

4.Many times the quality of workmanship can not be determine until years later – Example of poor workmanship, someone installed new asphalt shingles over rotten wood shakes.

Rather than taking off the old roof, putting down new decking, they nailed shingles right over the old wooden shingles.
God made you into a new creature, new heart, new nature, didn’t just patch up the old you, new you.

How can we determine quality of students produced by Victory?
Does what was put into them endure over time?
            Examples. Golden Graduates, Alumni

5. Sometimes quality can not be easily identified.
Exterior of this building, a lot of cracks, new product made out of Arkansas stone, glued to be thin membrane surface…..after about five years it developed cracks, 20 years latter, most of the outside will have to be surfaced.
Wind, rain, shifts in temperature, ice, snow, heat, has taken its toll over the years.

The quality of VCS impartation into you lives is going to be tested by the devil, thoughts, imaginations, activities, get your off track, God’s plan for your life; miss out on his best.

Examples of Quality Workmanship
Porsche Carrera GT.  $440,000
Lamborghini Reventon $1,600,000.
Bugatti Veyron $1,700,000.
Diamond-encrusted rims. $1,000,000.
H. Stern, a jeweler, unveiled a pair of flip-flops that sold for $17,000.
Pairs of cleats $220,000.
Stuart Weitzman’s Ruby Slippers$1.2 million.
Gucci Jeans – Example of Workmanship $3,100
Dussault Apparel’s Trashed Denim $250,000.

6. We are God’s workmanship, designed by Him.

The Word of God says that you are his workmanship……..
Psalms 139:14
Human body is a wonderfully made – marvelous creation, not result of evolution.
The brain is a swarm of cells in which everything is seemingly connected to everything else. The Creator designed man with 100 billion neurons (brain cells). Each is connected to at least 10,000 other neurons – giving well over 500 trillion connections in the brain. The connections though, follow a plan, an order.
Retina - 10 billion calculations occur every second in the retina before the image even gets to the brain. The cone and rod cells are minute photoreceptor cells and are each one is vastly more complex than our most sophisticated computer.
Bone. Your bone is stronger than granite. A block of bone half the size of a computer mouse   can support 10 tons –  four times the capacity of concrete!  In the adult, the marrow of flat bones  makes 2.5 million RBCs/second.

When you study science your will see how wonderful you are made….

  • An average human scalp has 100,000 hairs. God knows how many you have any point in time, and what their original color is
  • Humans shed about 600,000 particles of skin every hour - about 1.5 pounds a year. By 70 years of age, an average person will have lost 105 pounds of skin. (find a student weighs about 100 lbs)
  • Humans shed and re-grow outer skin cells about every 27 days - almost 1,000 new skins in a lifetime.
  • Your bone is stronger than  granite. A block of bone half the size of a  omputer mouse   can support 10 tons –  four times the capacity of concrete!  In the adult, the marrow of flat bones  makes 2.5 million RBCs/second.

7. God made us for good works.
How many of you have ever made something?
John 14:12. Verily, verily I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto the father.
Works is more than just  ministry related actions – includes all that we do.

8. Once Born Again – Works become important
2 Cor. 9:8  Abound unto every good work.
Titus 2:12-14 Eager to do good works.
1 Tim. 2:9-10 Good deeds are more important than what you wear.
Gal 6:8-10 Important to do good deeds.
Titus 2:7-8  In all things showing thyself a pattern of good works….

9. Good Words are Natural for Christian

Paul wrote to Titus (3:1-2), "Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work. To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness unto all men."  Shouldn’t have to beg you to get you to volunteer to clean up your room, clean bathroom, sharing your testimony,

One way to please Him is through good Works.

10. Good works determines rewards in heaven

Jesus spelled it out in Matthew 16:27 when He said, "For the Son of man shall come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and then He shall reward every man according to his works."

The same idea is repeated in Revelation 22:12 where we find, "And behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be."

11. What are some good works?

Student handbook is your Good Works Guide

12. You are going to have works – question is whether it will be good or bad.
We have a choice of either doing good things or bad things.

2 Tim 4:18  “And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom….
Lying, cheating, stealing, throwing trash on floor
Rom. 13:12 “Cast off the works of darkness…strife, envying, drunkenness….”
Eph. 5:11 “Any have not fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness….”
