Good Works Part II

HS Chapel        Good Works Part II  1-27-2011
Theme for this year, Eph. 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before, ordained that we should walk in them.

“What are your good works this year?”

1. Works are neutral until someone places a value on them.

Someone is evaluating the work you do

2 Works include all you do .
John 14:12. Verily, verily I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto the father.

Col. 3:23 “ And whatsoever you do, do it
heartily as to the Lord, and not unto men.

3.  Good Words are Natural for Christian

The true Christian really performs good works often without even thinking about it. The true Christian rarely thinks, "Say, here is a good work I can do, so maybe I had better do it."

Paul wrote to Titus (3:1-2), "Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work. To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness unto all men."

Vs 8Those who have believed in God should be careful
to maintain good works…don’t stop doing good, for it counts.

4. Good works are important
2 Cor. 9:8  Abound unto every good work.
Titus 2:12-14 Eager to do good works.
1 Tim. 2:9-10 Good deeds are more important than what you wear.
Gal 6:8-10 Important to do good deeds.
Titus 2:7-8  In all things showing thyself a pattern of good works….

One way to please your Heavenly Father is through good Works.

5. Jesus is keeping Track of all your works. Although it has been shown that a Christian cannot be saved by doing good works, might there be any related benefit? Indeed there is!

Jesus spelled it out in Matthew 16:27 when He said, "For the Son of man shall come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and then He shall reward every man according to his works."

The same idea is repeated in Revelation 22:12 where we find, "And behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be."

6. You have a choice
You are going to have works – question is whether it will be good or bad.
2 Tim 4:18 “And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom….
Lying, cheating, stealing, throwing trash on floor
Rom. 13:12 “Cast off the works of darkness…strife, envying, drunkenness….”
Titus 3:3”…foolishness, deception, serving lusts and pleasures, living in bitterness, envy, hatefulness…”
Eph. 5:11 “Any have not fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness….”.

What Prevents a Christian who has been born again, received the very life, a new nature, and has been destined for good works, to fail to walk out these good works.

Very Simple – An act of your will. You will determine your good works.

Matter of submitting your will. If God has preordained that you should have a life of good, then what is preventing you from fulfilling His Plan? You Will in the major factor.

Old sinful nature
Receive a New nature.
Whether or not you walk out your new natures depends upon your will
The more we move toward the new nature, the more divine we become

The devil knows he can not make you do anything.
He can only present a temptation; he can't make you buy into it. So, what does he do?
He increases his appeal to the will to get us to make the wrong choice.

Appeals to our impulses - urge
Passions -
Emotions - love, hate

You can overcome impulses, passions, emotions, pleasures

Devil is out not just to try to get you to have a good time, experiment with drugs, alcohol, sex. His plan is to  cause you to miss the good things that God has in store for you.

Ultimately, his plan is rob you, destroy and kill you.

Role of the Holy Spirit in your choices.
On the other side is the Spirit of God appeal to our recreated spirit, we call it the voice of the recreated spirit.--don't do that, it's not right,

Bottom line, it is up to you. God’s Word tells you that it is important to make right decisions; Holy Spirit is there to encourage you and to point you in the right direction,

Recalculating process – get back on course.

With every temptation, there is a way of escape – one of these is to make a quality decision not to do- always consequences to the decisions we make.

God has before ordained that you should walk in them. His purpose was for you to do good work, regardless of what it is.
It is up to us to allow the good inside of us to come out.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before, ordained that we should walk in them.
Jesus is monitoring our words and deeds. One of the tasks of your angels to keep a daily list of things you do.

I’ve believing that this year will be a year of good works. When you met someone in the hallway, how you doing in good works?
